We are proud to announce the forthcoming release of “Heretics & Privateers”, the new solo album by John Kay, founder and member of seminal rockband Steppenwolf.

The album offers a gritty view of contemporary life, surveying the human toll of institutional callousness with unflinching clarity. J John, who's evocative growl is one of rock's most distinctive voices, offers some of the most heartfelt performances of his career.

Born in Germany, John heard American rock'n'roll on the radio in the '50s. When his family moved to Canada, he was surrounded by the music that touched his heart and soul. It was folk music and blues that moved him the most. Consequently he started playing the coffeehouse circuit in the early sixties, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar.
In California, in the mid-60s, he founded Steppenwolf, the rock group with cult status.

With “Heretics & Privateers”, his first solo album in many years, John returns to his roots. The album is basicly an acoustic project, enriched by the contributions of his guest artists.

John is a man who's got something to say. And the blues is his music. We love the album!

Eine attraktive Mischung aus Folk und Blues – vieles durch akustische Gitarren geprägt und manchmal so ein wenig Country-Blues-like – mit Texten, die sich als Stellungnahme zum alltäglichen Leben (natürlich nicht ohne einen kritischen Unterton) verstehen.
