Carl Weathersby hails from Chicago. His blues are modern, dealing with the topics of today. He's not reproducing the blues of his ancestors.
Like Luther Allison, he combines hard rocking blues and soulful vocals and arrangements. His blues guitar playing may sound tough, but his vocals sound so sweet, sometimes bitter-sweet.
Carl is a master. He is ranking amongst today’s best guitar players. His style is intensive, powerful and loud-screaming. It's the combination of blues/rock, and soul that makes his music sound so unique. In 2002, Carl’s performances during the annual Lucerne Blues Festival in Switzerland was professionally recorded and released the next year. It remains his only CrossCut album, to date.

Supported by a great, hard-working trio, Carl will take you on a trip through the modern styles of blues, from a whisper to a scream..

It's big, it's clever, and it's soulful. (…) His guitar playing is fiery and distinctive, bordering on Albert Collins territory in part, but his sensitivity and feel for a good lyric (he has penned three of the ten tracks, too) give this live show a solid, mature ambience and, as a good live record should, it makes you wish you'd been there – especially when Carl strides in with Albert King's 'Night Stomp'. And there's another vocal bonus when Otis Clay exercises his pipes on 'Hobo Blues'.
Grit, passion and versatility seem to be thehallmarks of Carl Weathersby and his band, and 'In The House' is a showcase they can be genuinely proud of.

Chicago bluesman Weathersby unveils his special talent on this, the fifth in a series of In The House albums recorded at the Lucerne Blues Festival. (…)This is sophisticated in the extreme. (…) The only thing that I can say about the guitar playing is that it's stunning. If the rest of the In The House series is as good as this then we're all in for a treat.

Carl fans will enjoy this last piece of work as much as they have enjoyed his previous records, because his guitar sounds as intense powerful and fast as usual. It is a cd where soul and funky prevail with more rhythm and blues and Chicago soul, following Tyrone Davis path, than shuffles and down-home blues. GOOD.

Atemberaubend.
