CHRIS "THE KID" ANDERSEN – eine Mischo-Entdeckung.
Little Charlie & The Nightcats, gespielt.
With "He Came To Play" R.J. presents a hauntingly beautiful bit of Blues.
His modern grasp on a subject that has inspired friends of the Blues for roughly fifty years sounds like an invasion from another planet: wild with almost feral energy, rich in variety.
He is an innovative harp player who posses the first-rate talent required to write exciting songs with relevant lyrics.
With its primitive electric blues, humor, grime and awesome passion R.J. Mischo delivers an album that ranks among the best that were recorded in the last few years.
His instrumental "The Switch" would fit well in the soundtrack of a Sci-Fi Classic with its innovative mixture of blues and a Psychedelic element reminiscent of the Jefferson Airplane.
recorded in the last few years.
The members of R.J. MISCHO's band are:
FRANK GOLDWASSER – The Paris-born guitarist has been living in California more than a quarter century and is said to be one of the best interpreters of an aggressive and rhythmically propulsive playing style. He has his own CrossCut release with 'Bluju'(ccd 11077).
CHRIS "THE KID" ANDERSEN – a Mischo discovery. The young blood guitarist is said to be one of the greatest talents of the west coast Blues scene and the perfect complement to Frank G.
JUNE CORE – the drummer played many years in one of the best known California bands: Little Charlie & The Nightcats.
MARCUS CARINO – played bass formerly with the Fabulous Thunderbirds, among others, and is recognized as one of the best instrumentalists in the scene.
SID MORRIS – worked beforehand in Blues legend John Lee Hooker's band and in the Charlie Musselwhite Blues Band.
BARRY SHULMAN – guest artist. Played, among others, with Indigo Swing and can 'honk' or wail at will.
Bestnote für den Harper aus Wisconsin. (...)

This stuff hits you straight between the eyes and could easily have been recorded in the Chess studio’s in the 50’s. A couple of numbers from that old houserocker J.B.Hutto ‘20% Alcohol’ and ‘Please Help’ are given a good seeing to and you can smell the fish frying, the bourbon and the sweat. Fantastic stuff! ‘The Switch’ is one of three instrumental tracks which races along with spacey harp and guitar and a touch of psychedelia. What planet is this man on? (...) This is a wonderful album mixing Chicago style harp with humour and primitive electric blues and passion. It certainly sounds as though they all had a great time in the studio making this excellent album and that feeling comes across to the listener. Loved it to bits.

Mischo, an acknowledged master of the 50s/60s blues universe, is joined in his quest by a stellar group of musicians - Frank Goldwaser, Kid Anderson, Marcus Carino, Sid Morris, June Core and Barry Shulman – all musicians who have traversed time and space to bring the blues of that era, in it’s pure, unadulterated form to the 21st Century.(...)

Top Empfehlung.

RJ Mischo in superlative form, his fusion of West Coast and classic Chicago blues now fully developed (...).

For many years, R.J. used
to live in Minneapolis.
Two years ago he moved to California, and that's where his new one was recorded.
It sounds a little rougher than the last one. In the spotlight are R.J.'s superb
harp technique, but also the collaboration of two fine guitarists. Mischos
fat and low tone builds a nice contrast to Zinn's
elegant guitar phrasing, and Freund's Chicago
style picking. This is another great one from R.J.!
Watch out, here comes a cat from Minnesota who celebrates his move to California with some of the best Chicago-meets L.A. blues to be heard.

If you need a fix of honestly gritty, Rice Miller infuenced, harmonica blues, look no further than this new 15 track offering from transplanted Bay area harp ace R. J. Mischo. Mischo has the farout, fat, full bodied tone fully featured over the course of this disc. (...) Let this one blow your way.

A major step forward, recorded in Chicago by Jerry
Hall.
R.J. was supported by his fat-toned guitar player Jeremy
Johnson, Barrelhouse Chuck on piano, his old partner Billy
Black on upright bass, and Richard
Innes, original member of the Hollywood Fats Band on drums.
A very intense recording, a showcase not only for R.J. and his harmonica,
but also giving Jeremy room to move.
R.J. wrote most of the songs himself. Highly recommended to all lovers of
great harmonica driven blues, the kinda blues Little Walter or William Clarke
used to play. Beautiful digi-pack edition.
I enjoyed every tune and every note I heard!

As I sit hear listening to this CD, I would rather continue to listen than to write this review. (...) This guy is really tasteful.(...) Recorded live at Breminale Blues Festival 1995
(A CCR Productions Recording)
It was the rough and unpolished blues sounds produced by R.J. Mischo and his hot band that fascinated those attending the '95 'Breminale' festival. These are excerpts from the two sets that R.J. performed. Supporting the powerful harmonica blowin' is young Jeremy Johnson on guitar, an R.J. discovery. Those who saw him on their very successful "Rough 'n' Tough" tour of Europe said, he reminded them of the late great Hollywood Fats. Do yourself a favor and get yourself something's hard to find in this slick world today, some blues that's got edges, that's rough'n'tough!
This CD, with its lively in-concert ambience, is a great shop window for this, as yet, still underappreciated talent. Make no bones, however, this fella´s one of the best.

Sein neustes Album, 'Meet Me On The Coast', entstand an der Westküste
Produzent/Gitarrist Marc Thijs.
R.J. Mischo, harmonica ace and blues vocalist, was born in 1960 in Chilton,
Wisconsin. A professional musician since the 1980s, he has earned himself
the reputation of performing hot, sweaty blues, inspired by the music from
Chicago's south side.
When he was sixteen, his brother took him to a Muddy Waters concert at the Bel
Ray Ballroom in his hometown Minneapolis. Muddy's performance changed the life
of young R.J., and he wanted to become a blues musician, himself!
His career started in the midwest region. There he shared the stage with local
heroes like Sonny Rogers or Muddy Waters sideman Mojo Buford.
'Ready To Go!', his recording debut as Teddy Morgan's partner, took the news
to Europe where he started to record for CrossCut Records in 1995.
Meanwhile, Mischo has relocated to Southern California.
His latest release, 'Meet Me On The Coast', his forth album for CrossCut, was
recorded with a list of fine session players from the west coast.
Also on board were his long-time guitarist Jeremy Johnson from Minneapolis
(who's now working for Big Goerge Jackson), and Belgian producer/guitarist
Marc Thijs.
R.J. Mischo is without doubt one ofthe highest-regarded contemporary masters
of the harmonica. He plays the instrument with power and deep passion. and
he's a fine vocalist with a style of his own.
Since Mischo discovered the raw charm of the fifties quite early for himself
and concentrated on getting this feeling and keeping it going, he plays and
lives these blues as an extremely vital and powerful tradition.
