Aufgabe war es, dem Einerlei kalifornischer Retro- und Jumpformationen zu entkommen und eine größere stilistische Bandbreite zu präsentieren.
So hat Produzent Richard Duran obskurstes Material aus den 40er und 50er Jahren zusammengetragen und mit Hilfe seiner unglaublich versierten Musikerkollegen, darunter die komplette Rhythm-Section der Orginal-Hollywood Fats Band!, zu diesem Album geformt.

Slim ist ein hervoragender Sänger, und Junior holt die unglaublichsten Brummtöne aus seiner Gitarre, ersetzt Bläser, wenn nötig, und spielt das rotzigste Zeug. Dazu Superaufnahme von Jerry Hall. Sehr unterhaltsam!

To escape from the usual retro and jump blues routine, producer Richard Duran chose material from different musical sources, '40s r&b, downhome blues from the south, mostly obscure but GREAT stuff.

Slim is a fine singer and Junior one of the very best (listen to his deep-toned full sounds substituting horns!).
Super recording made by Jerry Hall in L.A. Extremely entertaining.

Given the pedigree of the assembled line-up, you cannot fail to enjoy this album. (...) All of the above, coupled with a good choice of seldom covered material make for a consistent album that fans of the genre can savely purchase.

Modernes Swingalbum in sehr gelöster Stimmung, jazzy, humorvoll und manchmal auch melancholisch. In dieser Sparte gibt's auf der Gitarre kaum einen besseren als Junior Watson, allerdings ist die ganze Band hervorragend. Zum Genießen für späte Stunden.

You are treated to some excellent guitar from both Watson and Holmstrom, a good vocal delivery, if slightly strained on the occasional high note, from Lynwood Slim, Kaplan's exemplary keyboard work and a rock steady rhythm section. All of the above, coupled with a good choice od seldom covered material make for a consistent album that fans of the genre can safely purchase.
