Selten zuvor hat eine Live-Produktion derart viel Spaß gemacht! Das Trio um die drei kalifornischen Musiker ging von Anbeginn an mit dermaßen viel Selbstvertrauen und Spielwitz an die Sache ran, dass schnell klar war: hier passiert etwas Besonderes. Harmonica, Gitarre und Schlagzeug? Kein Bass? Kein Bass. Und den vermisst niemand. Goldwasser legt mit seiner genialen Spielweise das Fundament, Mischo erzählt seine Geschichten und Innes, einer der unbestritten besten Drummer im Blues, trommelt einfühlsam und mit höchster Präzision. Ähnlich dem Trio von Hound Dog Taylor oder vielen kleinen Combos aus dem Süden der U.S.A. beweist das Down Home Super Trio, mit welch einfachen Mitteln mitreissender Blues gespielt werden kann. Das groovt und powert ohne Ende, simple Riffs wachsen sich zu Shuffles aus, langsame Blues kommen mit Wucht und Intensität. Und dann gibt es bei drei Titeln noch die besonderen Gäste Alex Schultz, einen der besten Gitarristen aus der kalifornischen Schule und Billy Flynn, regelmäßiger Gast des Lucerne Festivals. Er spielt Slidegitarre im traditionellen Stil wie kaum ein zweiter. Erdiger, dreckiger, manchmal rotzig-frech gespielter Blues auf eine Art und Weise, wie man ihn in unsere glattpolierten Welt nur noch selten zu hören bekommt.

This trio from California was one of last year's biggest surprises at Lucerne. Their simple, straight-forward style, inspired by the old masters and trios like the one led by Hound Dog Taylor, got the attention of the audience almost immediately. Let me state right up front that this CD is one of the best that I have heard in a long while. Featuring three well known West Coast blues players, The Down Home Super Trio plays blues the old fashioned way - raw. (…)
Kudos to the Down Home Super Trio for adopting the trio format and trying an approach that most modern bands would not attempt. It takes very skilled musicians to pull this off and these guys have succeeded big time. Very highly recommended.
