A CCR Productions Recording

He was eleven years old when he met blues legend Howlin' Wolf from Chicago. The massive fellow took lovingly care of the kid and told him to listen to the music of Charlie Patton and Son House, if he wanted to play the blues himself.

Many years later, in 1999, the Linden-produced 'Tribute To Howlin' Wolf' album was be nominated for a Grammy award. On his new CrossCut album, 'Still Live', Colin is dedicating a song to the man who had an important effect on him.

Colin Linden is 51 now. And he's a larger-than-life blues and roots personality, particularly in Canada. A couple of years ago, the Toronto-born artist moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where he's feeling on top of the world because he can hear great roots music at every street corner.

Along with Joe Henry and T-Bone Burnett, Colin Linden must be regarded one of today's prominent roots and blues producers. Colin has produced round about 100 albums, projects for The Band, Colin James, Janiva Magness, Bruce Cockburn a.m.o. Most of all, he's an accomplished, stylish slide guitar virtuoso, playing on more than three hundred releases. He has worked for Cassandra Wilson, Emmylou Harris, Greg Allman, Allison Kraus & Robert Plant, Keb' Mo und Eric Bibb, a.m.o. His songs have been recorded by The Blind Boys Of Alabama, Colin James and The Band. For the band from Woodstock, NY he wrote the hit song 'Remedy' which Colin has recorded for 'Still Live'.

Colin Linden played some of the music in the Coen Brothers film 'O Brother, Where Art Thou'.

'Still Live' is Colin's twelfth solo album and his first live record after thirty years. 'Who's Been Talking' is his tribute to Howlin' Wolf. Next to the Chester Burnett composition, there are eleven Linden songs on the album, recorded in a small club in Nashville. He's a musician's musician, performing in a class of his own, often compared with contemporaries like Ry Cooder or David Lindley. Colin is a talented songwriter and a first-rate slide guitar player with a deep, mellow tone. His picking technique is exceptional and sophisticated with unexpected twists and tunings. This little live record is doing justice to Colin Linden, one of the finest slide guitar players, worldwide!

John Dymond and Gary Craig are members of Blackie & The Rodeo Kings, Colin's Canadian roots project. Special guest on the live album is Spooner Oldham on the organ. He's well-known from many Muscle Shoals studio recordings. In 2012, Colin Linden will tour Europe a couple of times to promote his new CrossCut album.

Reviews CCD 12012 COLIN LINDEN Still Live

Here’s a little understated gem from the Toronto-born, Nashville-based Colin Linden . . . a superb singer and guitarist, much in-demand session player and producer. (…) Colin Linden’s slide guitar and vocals to the fore, pushed along by the stellar rhythm section.

Linden’s clean guitar-picking and incomparable slide are well-presented here in a dozen stripped-down yet rich-sounding selections. 'Still Live' is a must for all blues and bluesrock
lovers.

Overall this CD features superb musicianship and lyrics that make you think (not always the case in the blues!). The music here is more Americana than blues but it is a CD I can easily recommend. The final word should go to the US Immigration Service who (according to the sleevenotes) classed Colin Linden as “an alien of extraordinary ability” – that says it all, I think.

Walking the tightrope between country and blues. (…) Linden picks a catchy rhythm and dishes out some smoky slide to make this an excellent choice.

Stimmungsvoller Livermitschnilt (…).
