A CCR Productions Recording

Terry Evans was born and raised in the heart of the Mississippi Delta. Like many of his contemporaries, he made his first musical experiences in the gospel choir where he used to sing tenor, baritone and bass. In his family, blues was “the devil's music” (see also Otis Clay). So he listened to the blues, the music of B.B. King, Elmore James, or Little Walter – secretly. It was then that he decided he wanted to be a soul singer

His career began in Southern California when he started writing music. Soon he became a prolific songwriter (writing for Pops Staples, Louis Jordan, a.o.). As a guitar player and vocalist he was a much-in-demand session musician and singer, working for John Fogerty, Joan Armatrading, John Lee Hooker, a.o. He teamed up with singer Bobby King in the early seventies; they toured as a duo, appearing at many prestigious clubs and festivals. In 1976 when Ry Cooder was looking for background singers, Bobby King recommended Terry. Their distinctive voices became a feature on several of Ry's critically acclaimed albums, including “Chicken Skin Music,” “Get Rhythm,” “Show Time,” and “Slide Area.” Terry sang lead vocal on “Down in Mississippi “ on the “Crossroads” movie soundtrack album. In the actual film, Terry sings the title song.

In addition to his work with other artists, Terry recorded two albums with Bobby King, as well as six of his own. He is now touring with his own band. Terry is one of the most dynamic soul and blues singers performing today, writing and singing about all aspects of human emotion. His good friend Ry Cooder wrote one song exclusively for Terry's new album, “My Baby Joined The Army”. This song is dealing with the topics of today's war. “ When the plane took off this morning, I just stood and waved bye bye. My baby she's joined the army, and there was nothing I could do but cry.”

The recordings for “Fire In The Feeling”, his CrossCut debut, were made in Los Angeles in an almost intimate atmosphere. The album presents a mature and thoughtful singer/songwriter, backed by an excellent rhythm section. Special guest David Lindley came to play on a couple of tracks.

“Fire In The Feeling” is Evans' most personal soul/blues album to-date.

Reviews CCD 11086

(…) however you want to define it, impressive is a word you cannot avoid!
Most impressively though, Terry keeps things cohesive and fresh-sounding throughout the length of the album. We always knew he’s a very fine singer; this beautifully packaged CD proves that he is a very fine all-round artist.
