Third CrossCut release by this young Canadian guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. Produced by Kim Wilson (who also sings a bit and plays some harp) this is the band's finest and most original release. Great 1960s style blues, r&b and rock.

JW is up to his old tricks again, and he's got some new ones too! Produced by multi-Grammy nominee Kim Wilson , this album not only demonstrates JW's continually powerful and ever evolving styles but also features guest appearances by Colin James and Kim Wilson . They have also added a horn section and piano which adds some new flavors to the band's sound.
“One of this country's top blues guitar stars” writes the Globe and Mail about 23-year old JW-Jones. The Ottawa native broke through the local blues scene with the coveted 1999 Blues Guitar Riff-Off title, immediately setting his sights on the world at large with the release of his internationally acclaimed debut “Defibrillatin'”. This fresh band takes on a blues sound that has won accolades from critics and players alike.

The JW-Jones Blues Band was formed in 1998 and quickly armed itself with a recording Blues Revue Magazine called “smoking, with aggressive swingabilly guitar – Jones pulls out smart, classy boogie guitar licks.”

Rhythm section Nathan Morris on upright and electric bass, and Bill Brennan (who has played with Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy and Junior Wells) on drums form one of the best units Canada has to offer!

Reviews CCD 11082

Klasse! Jones' style is a fluid amalgam of T-Bone Walker's big, bright chords, Johnny “Guitar” Watson's slashing leads, and Gatemouth Brown's jazzy sting. (…) 'My Kind Of Evil' fulfills its mission with fun and fervor despite its familiarity.

Highly efficient blues and rock guitarist here with powerful end energetic band behind him blowing up a real storm. Beautiful looking package and sleeves from CrossCut who specialise in, we think, VERY high quality blues music. Listening to JW is just like attending a live gig and sitting in the front row just having a ball. Splendid album all around. ***

Mr. Jones' covering of several Blues styles is in fact equally as versatile as his fretwork skills, with Chicago, Texan, West Coast & swamp blues given show-casing. (…) The guitar on this disc is outstanding – take ““Slow Down” you think you are listening to Little Charlie Baty till things slow down to reveal a B. B. King study. In fact you can play this CD to your Blues guitar mates without telling them who's playing, and as the record unfolds names like Funderburgh, Ramos, Watson, Holmstrom, Zinn, Shultz and Zunis will most likely be said. My last statement is a giveaway at the large chunk of swing styled guitar that is on this album, but it has balance as all great works are. Saying this is a guitar album may be belittling the overall recording, but this will be referred to as a killer guitar album…and not just for a few weeks after its release!…
