Bob Stroger

Bob Stroger was born in South East Missouri in the small town Haiti where he lived on a farm. He moved to Chicago in 1955 where he lived in the back of a night club on the West Side where Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf played.
For him it looked like they were having a lot of fun, and so he made up his mind that he wanted to play music. He got married at an early age and used to watch his brother-in-law, Johnny Ferguson, who was playing with J.B. Hutto. Along with his cousin Ralph Ramsey and his brother John he started a band, the Red Tops.
Later, his brother formed a new band with Willie Kent and Bob and called it Joe Russell & The Blues Hustlers. They played together for a while, but Bob wanted to travel more and see the world, and make some money by doing so.
For the next three years he played in a jazz band with Rufus Forman. He then met Eddie King who joined the group, and they started playing blues and r&b. They called the band Eddie King & King Men. They stayed together for fifteen years!
They split up for about 2 years, and later started the band as Eddie King & Babee May & The Blues Machine. They stayed together until Eddie left Chicago. Bob quit playing for two years because he did not want to play with anybody than Eddie. He then met Jessie Green when he was playing with Morris Pejoe, and he liked the way Bob played bass. One night Otis Rush needed a bass player, so Jessie asked Bob to come and work with Otis. The rest is history. Bob Stroger has been playing music for forty years and is still having fun!
